DISTRICT COURT NOTES.

The jury in the Jack Smith case brought in a verdict of guilty and assessed the
punishment at thirty-seven years in the penitentiary, just thirty-eight years
less than the verdict at the first trial. The defendant has been taken to
Belton where he will stand trial on a similar charge. At a former trial in
that county he was given a sentence of twenty five years but a new trial was
granted.

The case of Ed Logan, charged with killing Neal Sealy is set for today.
The defendant, at a former trial was given ten years in the penitentiary but
secured a new trial.

The Mexican from Gurley, charged with murdering one of his fellow countrymen, is
on the docket for a hearing this week.

Flanders Banks from Perry, charged with burglary will have a hearing this week
if all the witnesses can be obtained.
