DISTRICT CONVENTION DAY.
----------
CONGRESSMAN, SENATOR AND TWO
FLOATORS NAMED.
----------
Saturday July 23 was "District
Convention Day" by the provisions of the Terrell election law and in every
district in the state the results of the recent primaries were declared today.
CONGRESSIONAL CONVENTION.
The congressional convention met at
Waco at 10 o'clock under call of Hon. O. L. Stribbling, chairman, and canvassed
the returns of the blanket primary held throughout the district. The returns
showing R. L. Henry to have won he was officially and formally declared the
nominee of the party for congress. His majority over Judge Gerald in the
district is about 4500.
SENATORIAL CONVENTION.
The senatorial convention met at the court house in
Marlin under call of Chairman John J. Foster.
The attendance at this convention was, like the others,
not so large as in some former years, the primary having settled the question of
the nominee.
Hon. T. P. Stone of Waco received the entire vote of
the district without opposition and he was declared the nominee. He is an
attorney at Waco who stands well among his professional brethern and among his
neighbors. He is a prominent worker in the ranks of the Sons of Confederate
Veterans.
FLOTORIAL CONVENTION.
The Flotorial convention convened at Waco at 9 o'clock
pursuant to the call of Chairman W. M. Manchester. It's work was merely formal,
also, as the people had spoken at the primaries their choice for the two
representatives to which the district is entitled.
The vote of the three counties was canvassed by the
committee and A. M. Kennedy of Mart and W. C. O'Bryan of McGregor were declared
the nominees, having secured the highest number of votes.
The vote each man received in the entire district is as
follows:
Kennedy
8189
O'Bryan
5422
Blackmon
4786
JUDICIAL CONVENTION.
The convention for the 3rd supreme
judicial district convened at Austin, Fred Opp of Llano presiding; Judge J. A.
Eidson or Hamilton county, recently appointed to fill the unexpired time of
Judge Streetman, was nominated without any opposition, he having received the
unanimous vote of the district in the primaries.
REPUBLICAN CONVENTIONS.
The congressional and senatorial conventions of the
republican party met at Waco. The usual contests were in evidence, but generally
speaking, the Conventions were very harmonious.
The congressional convention was presided over by Hon.
D. R. Emerson of Marlin and the senatorial convention by Hon. C. A. Boynton of
Waco.
There were no candidates for the republican nomination
for either of these places and the principal issue, if it may be called an
issue, was the party organization and the prestage that goes with it.
