At a meeting of the Falls County
Democratic Executive Committee on June 20th, the following proceedings were had:
The chairman stated the object of the call, among which
was to discuss and decide whether the presiding judges and clerks of the primary
election should be asked to hold the election free of charge, or whether they
should be paid a per diem.
Motion by Committeeman Fountain that the officers of
election be asked to hold the election free of charge, is as much as all
expenses must be borne by the county candidates.
After a discussion of the motion, the following
resolution was offered by Committeeman Lewellen as a substitute for Fountain's
motion, which resolution was accepted and seconded and carried as follows:
"Whereas, under the Terrell election law, and the
ruling of the democratic executive committee of Falls county, the expense of
holding the coming primary elections must be borne by the county candidates to
be voted upon in said election; and,
"Whereas, we believe it to be to the best welfare of
the people that the expense of candidates running for public office should be
reduced to a minimum:
"Therefore, be it resolved that the judges and clerks
of the coming democratic primary be requested to hold same free of charge.
"Be it further resolved that the committeeman from each
voting precinct be and is hereby instructed to see that the election for his box
is held, under this resolution, by qualified voters who are willing to do so in
accordance herewith."
