CITY COUNCIL.
The city council met
Monday in regular session the mayor presiding.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read and approved.
The mayor stated that he had leased for
$120.00 per year the old Conoly place, same to be used for a hospital for the
city. That the county would take a half interest but that the was in favor
of the city keeping it.
Report of auditing committee was ordered
filed.
G. W. Owens & Bros. were granted a
permission to erect a corrugated iron lumber shed in the Sewell cotton yard.
Edgar Smith, agent, asked permission to
place lumber on Sim's cotton yard. Granted.
Reports of officers were examined and
approved, except that of the assessor and collector which was referred to the
finance committee with instructions to hold a special meeting in order to have
time to check the (rep)ort.
President R. A. Reed and Attorney Stanley
appeared before the council and asked that amount of taxes erroneously paid by
Marlin National Bank be refunded. Referred to finance committee.
E. T. Johnson, special Attorney reported
amounts collected on delinquent taxes.
The mayor was instructed to close deal for
the Conoly place to be used as hospital and expend money necessary to fix same
up.
