Hon. R.L.Henry Nominated For
Congress.

Fight Over The Platform.
-----
The Congressional Democratic convention for the 11th District assembled in Waco
Monday, and was called to order by the District Chairman O. L. Stribbling.
Dr G F Perry of Hamilton county was elected temporary chairman, J B Logan of
Coryell county temporary Secretary and Will Gaither of McLennan county as
temporary sergeant at arms.
Two committes were selected Members
from Falls county being Jno. R. Southwell on platform and resolutions, M. V.
Bradshaw on permanent organizastion, order of business, credentials etc.
For permanent officer of the convention, J
M Kennedy of Falls county was elected chairman. J. B. Logn of Coryell for
permanent secretary. J. A. Wilkerson of Falls, assistant, Jno R. Southwell
of Falls sergeant at arms, and Will Gaither assistant.
The committee on platform reported and a
fight was precipetated by a minority report thereto offered by Hamill of Bell
county endorsing Wm. J. Bryan as a leader and as a statesman. On the
motion to table the minority report, Falls, McLennan and Hamilton voted "aye"
and Bell and Coryell voted "no." There was a division over this motion in
both McLennan and Falls delegation standing 12 to 24. The unit rule having
been adopted by the county conventions of both counties the fall vote went for
tabling.
Hon. R. L. Henry was placed in nomination
by F. M. Maxwel(l) by Spurlin of Hamilton and Jackson of Falls.
Hon. C. F. Thomas was placed in nomination
by D. R. Pendleton of Bell and seconded by Hawkins of Coryell.
The vote stood: For Henry, Falls,
McLennan and Hamilton, total 34.
For Thomas, Bell and Coryell, total 24. Mr. Henry having secured a
majority was declared the nominee. He was escorted to the Convention hall
by a committee composed of Dr. J. B. Burford, Eugene Daughtery, Dr. Perry, Dan
M. Jackson and J N Gallagher. Mr. Henry made a strong democeatic speech in
accepting the nomination.
O. L. Stribblng was re-elected chairman of
the executive committee for the next two years. The member of the
committee from this county is A. C. Barnett of Rosebud.
