Fixed Bud Coleman’s Bond
In Judge Dashiell’s court on
Wednesday afternoon Bud Coleman, the negro man who beat up a negro woman by the
name of Georgia Ann Hopperwood in the alley on the south side of Mrs. Smith’s
residence on the night of March 28, was given a preliminary hearing on a charge
of assault with intent to murder. He was not represented by an attorney and
refused to make any statement whatever concerning the matter. Judge Dashiell
fixed his bond at $250, which he was unable to make, and he was sent back to
jail, where he will remain until tried on the charge.
The
woman was beaten up in a terrible manner, the weapon used being a picket. At the
time of the assault there were few people moving about in the neighborhood,
happening as it did at 10 o’clock at night.
