The colored Methodist church of Mooreville was destroyed by fire Wednesday
night.
The pastor lives near the church and about
8:30 his little boy discovered the building on fire and reported same to the
pastor.
The pastor ran around to the rear door
which he found to be open. The front door was still locked.
The flames had already reached the ceiling
and there were strong indications that oil had been used.
All efforts to save the building proved
futile and in a short time it was reduced to ashes.
This is the second church building at
Mooreville, the A. M. E. church having been destroyed a short time ago.
Sheriff Carlton went out Thursday to
investigate the affair but could find nothing tangible to work on.
