that the arrest of (He)nry Waters is a good catch. (I)n addition to the
case of horse theft against him there are divers other charges to which he will
have to answer.
Upon
searching the negro Henry Waters who was arrested at Mart for horse theft and
brought to Marlin, a bunch of keys were found upon is person. The key were
at once believed to be be (sic) those belonging to the Levy store which was
burglarized about two months ago. The keys were taken to the store at once
and identified as the ones stolen from the drawer when the burglary was
committed. In explaining how he came in possession of same, the negro told
Marshal Coleman that he found them on the streets of Oklahoma City. The
officers put very little credence in this story, however, and Sheriff Greer
expects the finding of the keys to develop evidence to land the burglar who
entered the store. Constable Peebles has warrants for Waters on a number
of charges.
Some time
since a car was broken into while standing on the H. & T. C. side tracks in
Marlin and a large number of articles taken therefrom. Among them a
gentleman's traveling case, containing a small wardrobe within itself.
Also two razors and other articles of a well appointed outfit. The
burglary had about been fastened on Waters when he was arrested on the horse
theft charge at Mart. There are also gaming cases against the negro.
Waters is
said to have served a term in the pen on a charge of cattle theft.
The officers were glad enough to get him.
