A call issued by (missing) association of
Mar(lin) interested in the work (of) the American Bible Society met at the
Methodist church in an adjourned meeting from the court house at 8 p.m. Sunday
May 4th, 1902, for the purpose of reorganizing the Falls county Auxilary of the
American Bible Society. This organization has been in existence since 1867
but for some years had failed to meet in regular session. Quite a number

favorable.
On motion ----- LeNoir was chosen temporary
chairman and O. C. Robeson temporary secretary. Proceeding to the
published program Rev. D. H. Hotchkiss first addressed the meeting on the
"origin, purpose and work of the A. H. S, "giving in detail the facts as to its
origin, its worthy purpose and its wonderful work accomplished through the
agency.
Next E. J. Bradley of Waco, made a most
interesting and profitable talk on "Importance of Studying the Bible Itself,"
supporting the idea that a better knowledge of the bible comes (f)rom a study of
the text itself tha from any help not inspired.
Rev. J. A. Montgomery followed on the
"Present Plans of the A.B.S. and our Attitude toward Them." fully setting
forth the plans and purposes of this Auxiliary and the attitude it maintains
toward the A.B. S. and made an earnest appeal for the support of this
organization in its work of placing the scriptures within reach of every person
in our county, either by purchase or presentation. A collection was taken
and $7.50 secured for this purpose.
The meeting then entered into the election
of permanent officers with the following result:
President, Z. I. Harlan.
First vice-president, John M. Jolly.
Second vice-president, W. W. Miller.
Secretary, O. C. Robeson.
Treasurer, T. K. Barton.
Depository, I. L. Peterson.
A motion was made and carried to meet
semi-annually at such time and place as should be decided upon by the executive
committee.
No further business being before the
society it was adjourned sine die.
O. C. Robeson,
Secretary.
