BAD NEGRO AT RIESEL.
-----
HELD THE TRAIN CREW AT BAY WITH GUN
-----
Officers
were in the city Saturday night looking for "for a bad man from Bitter creek"
who held the train crew at bay with a pistol while he rode from Harrison to
Riesel.
When the
negro alighted from the train at Riesel citizens and officers of the town
exchanged about a dozen shots with the negro, but failed to overhaul him.
They stated to the officers here that they followed him to Marlin but lost all
trace of him here.
Sheriff
Greer received a message Sunday afternoon that a negro answering the description
of the bad negro was at Perry and coming this way. The sheriff, and constable
Peebles left at once for Perry and met the negro, whom they placed under arrest
and brought to town. After keeping him for several hours the sheriff could
find nothing to connect him with the affair at Riesel and released him.
