OFF TO AFRICA TO GROW COTTON
Herman Weibusch, a young man raised
near Perry, and well known in Marlin, left Thursday night for German East
Africa, in which place he will remain indefinitely.
Herman has been selected by the German government to
assist Special Agent August Becker in demonstrating cotton culture on lands
controlled by the Emperor, who as all newspaper readers know is endeavoring to
develop a cotton industry in German East Africa.
Herman was offered the place at the instance of the
German Consul at Galveston, through Mr. Otto Rau, a personal friend to both
parties. Herman goes to Galveston, thence by steamer to Berlin and from there by
land and water to Toga, East Africa, the point of his destination, and near
which place are located the cotton demonstration farms of the German government.
About two months will be required to make the trip.
