LOCAL NEWS
Constable Sam H. Tucker, of Lott, announces in this issue as a candidate for
Sheriff of Falls county.
Ten cars of cattle were shipped to market
Friday from Marlin. They were owned by Battle, Westbrook and
DeGraffreneidt.
Hon. Geo. W. Brown announces as a candidate
for representative of Falls county in the 28th legislature. See his card
in this issue.
Mrs. G. H. Wood has returned to her in
Batesville, Mississippi and was accompanied by Miss Marguerite Spencer.
Saturday while Don Capers and his brother,
sons of C. G. Capers, were in a tree, Dan fell out and broke his left leg just
above the ankle.
The H. C. Crawford bankrupt stock of
groceries has been sold to Sam Drake of LaGrange for $500.00, which is about 65
cents on the dollar.
John R. Southwell, of Lott, announces as a
candidate for sheriff of Falls county, subject to the action of the democratic
primary. See his card in this issue of the
Democrat.
Cards have been issued announcing the
marriage of Miss Nellie Dewberry to Rev. William Daniel Holloway at 8:30 o'clock
February 12th at Pleasant Grove Baptist church. The bride to be is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dewberry while the groom to be is well known over
Falls county.
Falls county pays into the state treasury
annually for general purposes $21,970 and for school purposes $19,696, or a
total of $41,605 and gets back in school money every year 41, 605, this is on a
basis of tax collections on the year 1900 valuation. The 1901 valuation
was increased some and the taxes will be somewhat larger, likewise the amount
that the county will get for school purposes.
