The drouth is broken. From every
section of South, Southwest, East, Central and North Texas, come reports of good
rains. In some places the rain was very heavy and was accompanied by some
wind, but no damage of great consequences was done.

Geo. A. Pringle who has been working in the Tax Assessors Office is quite ill.

The school board of the Lott High School has elected J. F. Kennedy
superintendent of their schools for the ensuing term. The board has also
added another teacher, making the corps six. The election of a new
superintendent was occasioned by the nomination of Mr. A. W. Eddins to be
county school superintendent.

The Children's Day Exercises at the Marlin Baptist Church Sunday night were
attended by a large crowd. An niteresting (sic) program was executed.
The pupils of the Sunday School showed remarkably good training and aptness.
It was a very creditable affair throughout.

During the electric storm Saturday night the plant of the Marlin Light and Power
Company was considerably damaged there being quite a number of insulators burned
out. The lightening struck the flag staff at the fire station and
shattered it for twenty or thirty feet from the top.

Mrs. J. A. Martin and daughter left today for the Indian Territory on a visit to
Harry Martin.

The town of Eddy in McLennan county went "dry" Saturday by a vote of 115 to 15.

Captain John R. Southwell of Lott was in the city yesterday. Besides being
mayor in the city of his town, he is the chairman of the Democracy of Falls
county. Captain Southwell is a candidate for sergeant at arms of the next
house at Austin. He is eminently well qualified for the position. He
is a cousin of Colonel Travis, a hero of the Alamo.

The Marlin National Bank will observe July 4th as a holiday and will close its
doors and give its employees a holiday. This is falling in line with 99
per cent of all the other banks.

Mrs. Gerald Byrnes who has been visiting in the city has returned to her in
Bryan.

Robert Thompkins has returned from the Phillipines where he has been in the
signal service corps.

Ernest Herring, Esq., who has been visiting in the city several days has
returned to his in Groesbeeck.

Gunther Lessing who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dan Jackson has returned to
his in Waco.

John N. Parrock, the Perry postmaster, was in the city Sunday. Mr. Parrock
says that the prospect for a good yield of cotton was never better.

L. R. Bushnell formerly with the Rhodes Haverty Furniture company has accepted a
position with the Rush-Gardner-Bartlett company in their furniture department.

County Attorney F. M. Boyles was licensed to preach the gospel by the Calvert
District Conference M. E. church in session at Rosebud. Mr. Boyles' many
friends wish for and expect his labors in his new field to be crowned with
success.

The usual report of a Galveston storm was put out by some one Friday afternoon.
As a matter of fact there was no unusual weather down there. Only a good
rain.

Both the Texas Medical Journal and the Texas Medical News, in reporting the
meeting of the Brazos Valley Medical Association's Marlin meeting say a lot of
nice things about Marlin and the mineral water.

A party composed of B. F. Foaster, P.C. Byrne, C.D. Newbold, R. L. Stallworth
and John Greer left Thursday for the San Saba river on a fishing and hunting
expedition. The DEMOCRAT has been promised a piece of b'ar meat by one of
the party.
