Tom E. Neely of Rockdale is spending a few
days in the city.
Miss Maggie Dean has returned from a visit

Miss Willie Monk of Moody is visiting the
family of Dr. J. W. Cook.
R. B. Dupree left Monday night for Old
Mexico. Bob says he's gone for a year this time.
Miss Maud Garrett who has been visiting

A. M. Williams of Eton has moved to Marlin
to reside in the the (sic) future.

Mrs. R. W. King of Caldwell is visiting her

Mrs. J. V. Cobb and daughter Mrs. George
Lenoir have returned from a visit in Fort Worth.

Miss Ida Potthoff of Otto and Mr. Mumme of
Houston were united in marriage at Otto Monday. The bride is the daughter
of Judge Potthoff.
Bob Barker has agreed to come back to
Marlin next week and start the runners in the running race at the Falls county
fair.

W. W. Turner arrived Monday afternoon from
the big Western Handicap shoot at Denver. Says There were 250 shooters and
that it was the best shoot ever held.
Vaughan Newberry of Teague was in the city
Saturday afternoon. Vaughn is now with the Trinity and Brazos Valley as
car inspector.
Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Campbell and Miss Bertha
Scheiblich have returned from an extended trip through the north and east.
They visited the Jamestown exposition while gone.
Tom McLendon, from the Mart country was
here Monday after cotton pickers. Says the cotton in his community will
average about 40 to 50 per cent of 1906 crop.
Prof. J. E. Blair, instructor of English in
the state normal at San Marcos, is spending the week in Marlin for the purpose
of taking the baths and resting up.
Two pleas of guilty were entered in county
court Monday morning. Frank Wietzerkowsky and Will Heirs, both of whom were
charged with theft under $50, were fined $1 and one day in jail.
Rev. O. T. Hotckiss has a letter from his
friend Bishop Ward of Houston, accepting an invitation to spend a Sunday and
preach for us later in the fall. Due notice will be given of the date as
the time draws nearer.
Dr. George J. Elam and son, Will, left
Sunday on a visit to Mrs. T. M. Bemus in Brookshire. From there Will goes
to Mississippi to resume his work with the state board of that state.
Deputy Sheriffs Newt Watkins and Joe
Bailey, raided a negro crap game Saturday night in a house between Lott and
Westphalia. They caught seven gamesters but about fifteen got away.
Geo. M. Herry went to Rosebud Saturday
afternoon to see his brother-in-law, John Dick Beal who has been quite ill for
several days.
Mrs. Herring went over early in the week.
Marlin is paying the price now for the
fleecy staple and she is going to get her full proportion of it. Farmers
who bring their cotton to Marllin will not only get the price but they will find
that our merchants sell better goods for less money than can be gotten at any
competitive point.
Mrs. Mary Wakaty, mother of Mrs. Adolph
Haltmar of this city, died at her near Cameron Friday night. The deceased
was 70 years of age and had been sick about two weeks at the time of her death.
She became overheated some time back and never recovered from the shock.
Mrs. H. H. Hawkins and daugher, who were
visitors to Marlin, have returned to their in San Angelo. Mrs. Hawkins was
re-elected secretary-treasurer of the state stenographers association which met
in Houston last week.
Only twenty-two ginners in the county have
made affidaavits to the county clerk under the new law requiring ginners to make
reports to the state commission-of agriculture. County Clerk Phillips is
anxious that those who have not reported may do so at once that the necessary
blanks for their statistical report may be sent them.
Church Hill Reed was arrested Sunday near
the Billingsley farm by Sheriff Poole on a charge of running into Rev. Charlie
McDonald. The preacher's buggy was demolished and he and his wife injured.
Reed was also considerably bruised up and the horse ridden by him injured.
It was a bad mixup. The acts of Reed will be investigated.
Among those who are attending Rosebud fair
from Marlin are D.R. Emerson, B. C. Curry, S. J. Barton, Frank Peacock, W. F.
and C. L. Fannin, E. W. Bounds, W. E. Hunnicutt, M. V. Bradshaw, S. R. Hemphill
and Martin Quaid. Others will go over Wednesday.
Gersey Epstein has purchased an interest in
the L. A. Alexander store and after Sept. 1, the firm will be Alexander &
Epstein. Gersey has been with the Levy dry goods house for thirteen years,
which is sufficient attest to his merit as a business man. He will be
pleased to see his friends at this new business. Silverman corner, after
Sept. 1.
We are in receipt of a Midland papr
containing announcement of the consolidation of all the abstract firms in that
town, incorporated, with J. A. Martin, president and J. Hunter Clark, secretary
and treasurer. The firm carries a large advertisement in the paper, which
indicates that they recognize the great value of printers ink in the promotion
of business.
