Miss Alva Carlton is visiting in Waco.

Miss Mamie Allison has returned from a
visit to Galveston.
L. E. Allen has returned from a business
trip to Houston and Galveston.
Miss Mattie Gray has returned to her in
Yeakum after a visit to friends here.
Miss Mary Dickson has returned from a visit
to friends and relatives in Colorado City.
James Lochridge has returned (to) Waco
after a visit to his sister, (--) J. T. Somervell, in this (city).
Cousins & Schuh, at Ed Nich(ol)son's old
stand, buy cottonseed and pecans and pay top prices. See them before you sell.
Miss Daisy Hines, who has (been) visiting
Miss Alva Carlton (in) the city, went to Waco on a visit before returning to
Tyler.
County produce bought and sold by Cousins &
Schuh. They pay the highest market prices.

Mrs. W. A. Ferguson of Houston who came up
to attend the Hotchkiss-Pickett wedding, has returned.

J. S. Hayes left Sunday for Tucumcari, New
Mexico, where he goes for the benefit of his health.
G. W. Beatty of Waco is the new agent for
the Waters Pierce Oil Company in Marlin, succeeding W. T. Vinson, resigned.
S. A. Elam of Haskell is visiting his
brother, Dr. Geo. J. Elam. Mr. Elam formerly resided here but moved west
about twenty years ago.
For Sale at bargain, practically a new,
full rigged stockman's saddle. Will sell saddle and bridle for $25.00.
W. Gardner, at Marlin Oil Mill Co. office.
George H. Carter returned Monday night from
a business trip to Lott and Rosebud. Says cotton gins are busy over there
and likewise the farmers and cotton pickers.
The civil docket is up in county court now.
The case of Abe Louis vs. B. F. Foster resulted the same as in justice court, a
mixed verdict. The case of A. C. McBride vs. the I. & G. N. railway was
compromised.
The following pleas of guilty were entered
in Judge Dashiell's court. Jim Williams, drunkeness, (sic) fined $1.00;
Willie Williams, affray, $1.00, Feno, a Mexican, drunkeness, (sic) $1.00.
S. A. Silverman who is spending several
weeks in Chicago taking special treatment at a hospital, writes that he is doing
nicely now.

Rev. M. S. Hotchkiss of Waco came down to
visit his brother, Rev. O. T. Hotchkiss and to be present at the Hotchkiss
Pickett wedding.
The gun club property, including about 2000
shells, was destroyed by a fire Saturday afternoon. The fire started from
the H. & T. C. right-of-way and burned the house in which the property was
stored.
Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Davis have returned from
Ben Hur where they attended the marriage of Miss Mattie (unable to read too
faded) to Mr. Childs of Houston, which event was soleminzed Sunday afternoon at
3 o'clock at the residence of the bride's mother.
Account of the threatened rain Monday night
the old fashioned dance at the park was anulled.(sic) However, the dance
will no doubt be given as the promoters are not to be balked by any ordinary
obstacles. The orchestra remains for two weeks yet under contract with the
Ladies Social Club.
There is considerable exulation int he anti
camp over the result of the elections in Milam county and Wood county held last
Saturday. The result in Milam where the antis won by a big majority, is
especially referred to by them. The county going wet will probably effect
the export trade somewhat.
Herman Q. Smith and his dozen assistants,
in charge of Car No. 1 of Sells-Foto shows, struck town Monday and have about
covered the city and surrounding country with their advertising matter,
announcing their coming on Saturday, Sept. 14.
At 12:40 Monday the fire department was
called to the south end of Nash, Robinson & Co's lumber yard to extinguish a
blaze that was fast assuming threatening proportions among a lot of rubbish and
old lumber stored there. Account the light water pressure the boys labored
under difficulties, but finally squelched the fire before very much damage
resulted.

jewel, Elgin movement. No. 05 case, diamond stone in center of case.
Golden curl in back of case. Lost near hot well Saturday, August 24.
Notify A. O. Bowdon and receive suitable reward.
H. T. Rogers of Miles, Texas, is on a visit
to Falls county. He moved from Reagan to his new the first of the year.
Says it is very dry in that section now, but that cotton will make a bale to
about four acres.
Misses Anita Shelton and Sallie Peyton, who
are guests of Mrs. W. T. Bertrand of Harlem, were the honorees, of a dancing
party given at the Bertrand on Tuesday evening. Says a report to the News:
"The good byes were said with regret, but the memory of the pleasant evening
with the sweet honorees and charming host and hostess will linger long
with those who were there."
