LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

Mrs. T. C. Westbrook of Lorena is visiting relatives in Marlin.

Cousins and Schuh shipped out 2,500 pounds
of pecans to northern markets Tuesday.

Dr. C. C. Hawkins of Mooreville was in the city on business Tuesday afternoon.

A permit to wed was issued Wednesday afternoon to R. F. Stephens and Hattie E.
Dodgen.

Mrs. Earl Cathey of Hamilton is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. E.
Sanders and family.

Mrs. Thomas who was visiting in Marlin a guest at Mrs. Hailey's has returned to
her in El Campo.

S. O. Scott, claim agent of the H. l& T. C. with headquarters at McKinney, is in
the city on business for his road. He is accompanied by Mrs. Scott.

A permit to wed was issued Tuesday afternoon to Miss Victoria Beier and Ernst
Schlummer. The parties reside near Perry.

Hon. W. W. Hair, who was a visitor to Marlin, has returned to Temple. As
previously stated, he is a probably candidate for congress. He expressed
himself as well pleased with his visit to Marlin.

Everything is in readiness for the grand game of foot ball between Marlin and
Waco on Saturday next. The Marlin Juvenile band will furnish the music,
meeting the Waco team at the train and heading the procession to the grounds.

Albert Levy and N. J. Lewellyn were introduced into the mysteries of the Eagles
lodge at Waco Tuesday night. F. M. Stallworth, Charley Schuh and W. I.
Toler went along to see the work well done.

The remains of Miss Alleen Hotchkiss were taken to Austin Tuesday night for
internment. They were accompanied by the family, Rev. M. H. and D. H.
Hotchkiss, Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson of Houston, Mrs. Pickett of Beaumont.

Appropos to the season, the poem of Uncle Rastus entitled, "When the Wild Goose
Checks His Baggage," will be found in this issue. "Uncle Rastus" is the
pen name for Mr. A. W. Foster, who can raise more fine hogs and write more
poetry than anybody in these diggins'.

B. C. Nettles telephone from Dallas Tuesday afternoon that his brother, Albert
Nettles, is quite ill at Arlington, where he is at school. For that reason
Mr. Nettles will be detained longer than he had intended when he went up.

W. P. Roberts of
Bruceville and W. L. Pace of Eddy, both of whom are serving on the jury this
week, added their names to The Twice-a-Week Democrat subscription list.
They say that they are sure they will get their money's worth and we don't doubt
it in the least.
