Dr. T. A. Welsch of Groesbeeck is a visitor to Marlin.

R. S. Hunnicutt has returned from a business trip to Marshal.

Miss Anita Shelton is from a visit to friends in other cities.

Mrs. J. G. Oltorf and son, J. G., of Dallas, are visiting relative in Marlin.

James S. Ainsworth, editor of the Hamlin Herald, is a visitor to Marlin.

Mrs. Seth Mooring has returned to her in Bryan after a visit to relatives in
Marlin.

C. H. Oakes has moved to Marlin and is occupying the residence he purchased from
T. G. Marburger.

Nash, Robinson & Co. are filling in their yards around their grist mill with
gravel, using slack concrete in sacks for ballasts.

Rev. M. T. Andrews went to Lampasas to hold services Sunday. Mr. Andrews
recently declined a call to that church.

Hon. D. H. Hart, clerk of the U. S. district court, was here Sunday from Waco on
a visit to his sister, Mrs. S. H. Johnson.

Jasper Gibbs, formerly a citizen of Kosse, was here Thursday afternoon from San
Angelo, where he now resides.

The present week is set aside in county court for the consideration of probate
matters. On account of the weather there is little doing.

Hon. John B. Peyton of Trinity is among the visitors to Marlin. He is a
prominent lumberman of the state who is taking a rest in Marlin.

S. A. Silverman has returned from Chicago, where he has been for several months
for the benefit of his health, which is now very much improved.

R. S. Hunnicutt leaves this week for Brewster county where he will remain
several months surveying for the state school land department.

John Groves and James Ferber are the new proprietors of the McKewen barber shop
and will be pleased to have their friends drop around to see them.

The trail of Rod Oliver, of Groesbeeck, growing out of the failure of the
Groesbeck (sic) National Bank in 1903, is being tried at Beaumont and twenty
witnesses are in attendance.

Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Westbrook who were visiting relatives at Hearne, came up
Monday afternoon and are remaining for a visit to relatives in Marlin before
returning to their at Lorena.

B. D. LaPrelle, formerly proprietor of the Electric theatre in Marlin, has
embarked in the newspaper business at Temple, being connected with the Temple
Telegram.

The streets of Marlin and public roads of Falls county withstand the effects of
the long continued spell of rainy weather a great deal better than they did ten
years ago.

The match game of foot ball scheduled for Saturday afternoon between Temple and
Marlin was cancelled (sic) on account of the rain. The Temple team returned on
the afternoon train.

Judge W. E. Hunnicutt and M. V. Bradshaw went to Lott Friday night to attend a
meeting of the Masonic lodge at which two candidates were given the Master's
degree. A fine supper was served which was especially enjoyed by the
Marlin gentlemen.

Hon. Tom L. McCullough came down from Waco Thursday afternoon and went out to
Mooreville. Tom is understood to be in the running for county judge of
McLennan county next year and his many Falls county friends will hope to see him
land the persimmon.

Mr. and Mrs. Jno. E. Rogers came up Saturday nght (sic) and in company with C.
E. Cloy visited Valley View farm west of the River, where Mrs. Alonzo
Bargainier, their sister, has been ill for some time, but is now recovering.
While in the city they were guests of the Majestc. (sic) They returned to
Houston Monday.

Capt. Warren Swann late
of the Phillippine Islands is in the city visiting relatives. Capt. Swann
is and has been a member of the Constabular force on the Islands for a number of
years, and is at on a furlough visiting his father, Maj. J. J. Swann of Chilton,
Falls county. Capt. Swann is a most interesting talker and in that
respect, resembles his distinguished father, who is acknowledged to be the best
reconteur in the state. He is full of information regarding our new
possessions as well as conditions generally in the Orient, especially in Japan,
and it is a delight to her him.--Groesbeeck Journal.
