The mandate in the case of the State of Texas vs. John Smith has been received
from the clerk of the court of criminal appeals. Two points upon which the
case was reversed was the admissibility of evidence to crimes with which the
defendant was not alleged to be directly connected and the failure of the court
to invoke the rule as to separating of witnesses in the case of the city
marshal. These were among the contentions set up by Attorney Bounds in his
brief on appeal.
Read Campbell's Emergency Sale in this
issue. He "blazes the way" for lower prices and good values. The
ladies of Falls county cannot afford to overlook this event. Closes
Tuesday, Dec. 3rd.

J. M. Hazlewood of Chilton bought a span of good mules at the Marlin Mule Market
Monday. Mr. Hazlewood says it pays to buy good work stock and he knew
Marlin was the place to get them, as he bought a pair of mules in Marlin last
year and made enough cotton amount to several times the cost of the mules.
He stated that to show that it pays to have good mules to plow, that he
cultivated 20 acres of land this year that had been scratched by a plug team and
made practically nothing. By plowing (missing) and deep he made on the 20
acre patch eight bales of cotton, and this was not a good year, either.

How They Stole the Beer.
City Marshal Stallworth has located the cause for the disappearance of
quantities of beer from the wholesale storage houses of Frank Peacock.
Parties discovered a hole in the wall that
exposed a barrel of "Bud" and securing a chisel they punctured the barrel with a
hole large enough to admit the passage of a bottle at a time. In this way
they secured quite a lot of the beverage.
