The Clark Light Guard
left Monday night via the I. & G. N. for the state encampment at Austin.
Capt. Geo. Carter was in command and
carried with him 45 men. They were expected to reach Austin next morning
and go into camp immediately.
They will be gone about ten days during
which time they will be subject to strict military discipline and will get a
"slight taste" of regular army life but where there is no real fighting.
These annual encampments are Schools of
Instruction inaugurated for the purpose of training the militia. It is
not, as some seem to think, all fun and frolic.
The location of this year's camp is said to
possess many attractive features.
A sham battle will be fought early in the
week.
