Millard Fillmore Williams, b April 17, 1892 in Falls county, Texas, d December
18, 1952 in Marlin, Texas-a son of Virgil M. and Martha ("Mattie" Barclay)
O'Brien Williams, was married in February 1913 to Beulah Mae Drake, b October
14, 1896, d February 8, 1975-a daughter of Ed Drake of Louisiana and his wife,
Carrie (Robinson) Drake of East Texas. Millard F. and Beulah are both buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. They had three children:
Virgil Millared Williams, b in December 1913-married in 1935 to Myrl Collier.
Ethel Mae Williams, b May 13, 1915-married June 4, 1938 to Herman Robert ("Red")
Rogas, and adopted one daughter, Marcia Rogas. "Red" enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1935, and after World War II began, he served in both the Atlantic and
Pacific, and was awarded nine Battle Stars. Red and Ethel Mae are members of the
Episcopal Church in Marlin, where Red is retired from the Post Office. He was a
son of Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Rogas.
James Maurice ("Cotton") Williams, b July 13, 1918, attended Texas A&M and
entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He attained the rank of 1st
Lieutenant and was on active duty in World War II in France when he was killed
in June 1944. He was awarded the Silver Star, ETO Ribbon, and the Purple Heart.
"Cotton" married shortly before going overseas to Norman Jo Smith, b October 9,
1923-a daughter of John Harvey and Ila Grace (Petteway) Smith of Bremond,
Robertson County, Texas. Their only son, Michael Keith Williams, was born
December 16, 1944-six months after the death of his father, and was reared by
his stepfather, William Henry Garret, who his mother married on November 13,
1945. Michael Keith Williams married Gerry Burney, and they have a daughter,
Stacey, and a son, Ryan, and reside in Austin, Texas.
Millard Fillmore Williams was in the Feed and Seed business on Commerce Street
in Marlin during his lifetime, and his son, Virgil Millard Williams continues in
this business at the same site. Millard Fillmore and Beulah were members of the
Baptist Church.
