WILKEY, James Terrell

James Terrell Wilkey, b January 24, 1932 in Falls County, Texas-was a son of
Julius Benjamin and Martha Leah (Atkins) Wilkey. His mother was called "Mattie."
James was only ten years old when his father died, and he was reared with his
six ssiblings by his mother in West Falls County. He attended schools in Chilton
and Lott, and graduated from Marlin High School in 1949. In 1955, James
graduated from Dallas Institute, Gupton Jones, College of Mortuary Science, and
became a licensed embalmer in 1956. He had held a license as a Funeral Director
since 1952, when he was employed in Marlin by Mr. Barnes Adams in the Adams
Funeral Home.
On December 17, 1955, James was married to Anna Lois Patterson, b January 24,
1936 in Hill County, Texas, and they have two children:
Terrell Lee Wilkey, b July 14, 1956-married May 7, 1981 to Diane Carriker, b
March 16, 1953. They have Benjamin Wilkey, b December 2, 1983.
Lou Ann Wilkey, b November 17, 1957-is unmarried.
In 1976, James purchased a half-interest in the Adams Funeral Home, where he is
a partner of James Glockzin.
James served in the Texas National Guard for twenty-one years, retiring in 1970,
with the rank of Major. He is a past-president of the Marlin Lions Club, a
member of the Marlin Masonic Lodge, the Waco Scottish Rite, the Waco Karem
Shrine Temple, and the Marlin Chamber of Commerce. He and Anna are members of
the First Baptist Church of Marlin.
