Surnames: WIEBUSCH, DIEKMANN, DOCKEL, BOCKER, THIES
George W. Friedrich Wiebusch, b September 18, 1831 in Osnabruck, Hanover
Province, Germany, d March 22, 1904 near Perry, Falls County, Texas, and aburied
in Perry Methodist Church Cemetery-was a son of Colonus Friedrich Wilhalm
Wiebusch, b Hasbergen near osnabruck, Germany, and his wife, Catharine
Wilhelmine Bernhardine Diekmann, b in Leeden, Germany.
In 1854, George and a brother, Fritz, immigrated to Washington County,
Texas-later sending money for their siblings. George brought two pictures
painted on glass, and the one that has survived is now owned by a great, great
grandson, Carl Bussell.
In 1861 at Brenham, George enlisted as a Private, Company D, 5th Regiment of
Mounted Volunteers, of the Confederate States Army, for service in the Civil
War. His company was sent to New Mexico, where they participated in the battles
of Val Verde and Peralta. At the end of the war, he returned to Brenham, where
he bought and operated a livery stable.
About 1872, George was married to Dora Dockel, b February 21, 1846 in Osnabruck,
Germany, d April 14, 1899 at Perry, Falls County, Texas and buried in Perry
Methodist Church Cemetery-a daughter of Sophia (Bocker) Dockel, b 1810 in
Germany, d 1897 at Perry and buried in Perry Methodist Church Cemetery, who
immigrated to Washington County, Texas in 1857. Sophia lived with the Wiebusch
family until she died.
For a number of years, George drove a stage coach from Brenham to Waco, Texas.
One of these trips, he was shot in the leg by bandits near Perry, and was cared
for by German settlers, until his recovery. This influenced him to bring his
family to Falls County-moving first to Waco by 1875, and subsequently to Perry,
Falls County, Texas, where he engaged in farming. He bought land for farming in
the Perry Community, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
George W. Friedrich and Dora (Dockel) Wiebusch were the parents of three sons:
Charles Lewis Wiebusch, b February 23, 1873 in Washington County, Texas-married
Alwine H. Thies.
Edward Julius Wiebusch, b December 28, 1875 in Waco, Texas, d November 3, 1941
in Waco-married October 15, 1905 in Palmer, Texas to Emma Ida Borth, b June 9,
1881 at Palmer, Ellis County, Texas, d February 14, 1960 at Waco. They moved
from Palmer to Sanger, Denton County, Texas in 1912, returned to Riesel, and
subsequently settled in Waco. They were both buried in the Perry Methodist
Church Cemetery. Their four children were: Pearl Dora Wiebusch, b October 25,
1906; Edna Augusta Wiebusch, b October 10, 1908; Lillian Bertha Wiebusch, b
January 11, 1913, d August 24, 1929; and George Albert Wiebusch, b September 25,
1916.
Herman Wiebusch, b ca 1877 in Falls County, Texas, died in a hospital in Norman,
Oklahoma. He had gone with a German Farm Organization to East Africa to promote
the growing of cotton. While there he contracted malaria, which resulted in a
physical and mental condition, from which he did not recover. He was
hospittalized for several years until his death. He was never married.
George and Dora Wiebusch have several descendants who reside in Falls County,
Texas.
