Charles Lewis Wiebusch, b February 23, 1873 in Washington County, Texas, d
August 24, 1945 at Riesel, McLennan County, Texas and buried in the Perry
Methodist Church Cemetery at Perry, Falls County, Texas was a son of George W.
Friedrich and Dora (Dockel) Wiebusch, natives of Germany, who moved to Waco,
Texas ca 1875, and thence to Falls County by 1877-settling in the Perry
Community.
Charles Lewis Wiebusch was married to Alwine Thies, b December 27, 1871 at
Sohlde, Hanover Province, Germany, d June 24, 1918 at Riesel and buried in Perry
Methodist Church Cemetery-a daughter of Conrad Christian Friedrich and Johanne
Conradine Amalie (Behrens) Thies, both born and died in Sohlde, Germany.
Alwine emigrated from Germany to Waco, McLennan County, Texas-sponsored by the
Herman Behrens family. Charles Lewis and Alwine bought a farm in Falls
County-near Riesel; and later, the family moved to Riesel, where Charles helped
organize the Meyers Memorial Methodist Church. He was Manager of the Riesel
Hardware and Lumber Company, Postmaster 1922-1935, and also operated the local
newspaper, The Riesel Rustler, for a short time. He was chairman and promoter of
the Riesel fair, which still continues annually; and after his death, Charles
Lewis Wiebusch was recognized for his unselfish civic accomplishments, by a
Resolution of the Texas State Senate.
Charles Lewis and Alwine (Thies) Wiebusch reared three children:
Walter George Wiebusch,b July 6, 1890, d March 1, 1966 in Houston, Harris
County, Texas-married Katherine Faudi, b July 27, 1888 in Perry, d after 1970 in
Houston. They farmed for a few years, moved first to Anderson, Texas, and
subsequently to Houston, where Walter was a chief engineer for Uncle Ben's
Converted Rice company. One son, Walter Clifford Wiebusch, b July 17, 1916 in
Falls County, Texas, was a lawyer in Houston-is now a retired Judge, residing in
McAllen, Texas. Walter Clifford Wiebusch married and had a son, Clifford
Wiebusch, b September 13, 1959, who lives in Houston, Texas.
Almeda Sophia Wiebusch, b December 21, 1895 in Perry, Falls County, Texas, d
August 13, 1981 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Perry Methodist
Church Cemetery-married Karl Tostmann.
Charles Fredrich Wiebusch, b March 11, 1903 in Falls County, Texas-married in
1926 to E. Agnes Townsend, b March 27, 1902, while they were in graduate school
at The University of Texas, Austin. Agnes is Professor Emeritus of Rutgers
University, New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Charles is a retired executive of
Bell Telephone Laboratories. During World War II, Charles was with the Civilian
Underwater Warfare Division of the U. S. Navy, for which he was presented the
Medal of Merit by President Truman. They lived in New York, New Jersey, and are
now retired in Sarasota, Florida. They had no children.
