WHITAKER, GEORGE DAVID VINCENT

George David Vincent Whitaker, b October 24, 1875 in Georgia, d August 18,
1961 and buried in Cego Cemetery, Falls County, Texas-came to the
Eddy area of Falls County in 1895, where he worked as a farm
laborer. He was followed to Texas by his friend John Pryor, and the
two encouraged their widowed mothers and siblings to join them.
George's mother, Mrs. M.F. Whitaker, did come to Texas, b November
11, 1843, d August 9, 1934 and buried in Cego Cemetery.
In 1899, George was married to Martha Elizabeth Pryor, b February 2, 1880 in
Georgia, d March 15, 1974 and buried in Cego Cemetery-a daughter of
John Cecil Pryor, b 1849 in Georgia, who married February 24, 1851
in Georgia-a daughter of Robert and Sarah (Hatchet) Cochran, of Pike
County, Georgia, and a sister of John Pryor, who joined George David
Vincent Whitaker in Texas. Matha's paternal grandparents were Jesse
Jack and Mary Ann (Baker) Pryor.
During his life-time, George acquired farm property in the Chilton area of
Falls County, and invested in land in Nueces County, Texas. The
depression of the 1930's caused great loss of property, although
descendants still own land near Chilton on which there are several
oil wells.
George and Martha (Pryor) Whitaker were the parents of ten children; Ida Mae
Whitaker, Robert Emmett Lee Whitaker, Lida Julia Whitaker, Minnie
Carrie Whitaker, John George Whitaker, Charles Clarence Whitaker, b
January 27, 1909 who married Mary Elizabeth Brown; Eula Willie
Whitaker, Pinkney Carter Whitaker, b December 23, 1912 who married
Crystal Alice Sikes; Martha Elizabeth Whitaker, and Carl David
Vincent Whitaker.
Charles Clarence Whitaker and Pinkney Carter Whitaker remained in Falls
County, and their children and grandchildren continue to live there.
