JACK DIXON WELCH, II

 

 

     Jack Dixon Welch, II, b April 11, 1928 at Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas - was a son of Jack Dixon Welch, I, who died in 1936, and his wife, Anna Louise (Bauer) Welch, to whom he was married on April 10, 1927. After Jack Dixon Welch, died, Ann Louise (Bauer) Welch was married second in 1938 to Howard Owen Smith, M.D., of Marlin, Texas; and Jack, II was reared in Marlin by his step-father, who had a son, Howard Lee Smith, M.D., and his mother.

     Jack graduated from Groesbeck High School and attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, and graduated from Texas Tech University at Lubbock. He served two years in the U.S. Army, and then attended Baylor University School of Law. While a law student, he was elected as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing Falls and Limestone Counties, and served two terms.

     Graduating from law school in December 1954, Jack established his Law Practice in Marlin; and he is also a Registered Lobbyist in Austin.

     In December 1950, Jack Dixon Welch, II was married to Dimple Sue Williford, b January 7, 1929 in Marlin, Texas - a daughter of Samuel Dewey and Sallie (Rush) Williford. Samuel D. Williford was Manager of Southwestern Electric Service Company.

     Jack and Dimple were the parents of three children - all born in Marlin, Fal1s County, Texas:

     Jack Dixon Welch, III, b January 30,1952, who attended the Marlin Public Schools and graduated from St. Stephens Episcopal School in Austin. He graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1974, and received a Marshall Scholarship for study at Oxford University in England.

     Sally Ann Welch, b January 5, 1954, graduated from Marlin High School, and received her degree in Education in 1976 from Baylor University. On April 11,1981, she was married to Ron Butler, b August 7, 1953 - a son of Randle and Ruth (Brown) Butler, of San Antonio, Texas. Ron did his undergraduate study at The University of Texas, Austin, and received his law degree from Baylor University School of law - establishing a General Trial Law Practice in Marlin, Texas in 1984. Ron and Sally have two children: Elizabeth Diane Butler, b September 8, 1983; and William Daniel Butler, b February 9, 1985. The Butlers are members of First Presbyterian Church of Marlin, where Ron teaches a Young Peoples Class, and Sally is active in the Women of the Church.

     William James Welch, b September 30, 1956, graduated from Marlin High School in 1975, and attended McLennan Junior College in Waco, Texas.

     The Welch family has been associated with both, the Episcopal and First Presbyterian Churches in Marlin. They are very active in their community, and participate in the church, social, cultural, and political affairs in the city, county, state, and also in national circles.
