RICHARD POPE VASSER
Richard Pope Vasser, b February 20,1852 in Halifax County, Virginia, d March 27, 1934 at Chilton and buried in Carolina Cemetery, Falls County, Texas - was the third child of Charles W. and Mary (Womack) Vasser - natives of Virginia.
Richard Pope Vasser was only one year old when his parents moved to
Carroll County, Mississippi, where he grew to manhood and married. His parents
were both deceased by the time he was about twelve years old, and he and his

returned to Falls County. On the return trip, they discovered that a young black
boy, Green Vasser, who was born on the Vasser farm in Mississippi, had stowed
away, under the wagon - so they brought him along to Chilton. Green lived and
worked for the Vassers all his life, marrying there and rearing two children,
Roy and Emma.
In 1905, Richard Pope Vasser bought a farm two miles east of Chilton, and
their is still occupied by the widow of their youngest son, Harry Lafayette
Vasser.
