A. LAFAYETTE VASSER
A. Lafayette Vasser, b May 20, 1854 in Carroll Jounty, Mississippi, d July 31, 1897 near Chilton, Falls County, Texas, and buried in Carolina Cemetery - was the youngest off our children of Charles W. and Mary (Womack) Vasser - natives of Halifax County, Virginia. Lafayette was orphaned at the age of ten y-ears, and he and his three brothers were reared by a 3tep-mother, along with their two half-sisters, after their father died in the Civil War.
Lafayette grew up on the family farm, where the ravages of the Civil War had been devastating. About 1877, in Mississippi, he was married to Alice Key, b February 8, 1858 in Mississippi, d March 13, 1938 in Chilton, and buried in Carolina Cemetery near both her husbands, who were brothers.
In 1886, Lafayette, his brother, Richard Vasser, and their families immigrated to Falls County, Texas, where their eldest brother, George Vasser, had settled in 1876.
Lafayette and Alice (Key) Vasser had three children before his death:
Charles Gibson Vasser, b September 8, 1878 in Mississippi, d November 12, 1967 in Chilton - married October 7, 1906 to Julia Pearl Nelson, b June 24,
1887, d December 20, 1970 in Chilton. They had Willie Elton Vasser, b September 3, 1907, d June 10, 1965 in Chilton; Durwood Vasser, b May 13, 1916 - married Gertrude Drews of the St. Paul Community near Mar�lin, Falls County, Texas; Hollis Vasser; Louretta (Vas�ser) Douglas; and Zoleta M. Vasser, b September 4,
1922 who married Paul E. Reid, b May 19, 1918, of Chilton.

George Lafayette Vasser, b August 24, 1891, d
March 4,1964 - married Velma A. Powell, b October 19, 1902, d August 21, 1983 and buried in Chilton Cemetery. They had six children: George Lafayette Vasser, Jr.; Billy Newton Vasser; Helen (Vasser) Edred; Bobby Jene Vasser; Eunice (Vasser) Athlee; and Alton Wayne Vasser. George and Velma lived in the home place at Chilton until their deaths.
After Lafayette Vasser died in 1894, Alice (Key) Vasser married second in 1897 to her brother-in-law, George R. Vasser, and they had one son, Alpha Vasser, b 1898, who married Mae Mills and moved to Waco, Texas.
