PAUL H. VAN PELT
Paul H. Van Pelt, b October 23,1889, d October 30, 1963 and buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - was married to Winnie D.
Higgins, b December 23, 1892, d July 11, 1961 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in
Marlin - a daughter of Thomas Benton and Mary Elna (Fountain) Higgins, who
resided in the Reagan Community of Falls County, Texas, where he served for
fifty years as Postmaster.
Paul and Winnie (Higgins) Van Pelt were the parents of two children:
Loretta Van Pelt, b August 29, 1917 - who married first to Robert Abel
and had a son, Robert George Kirkpatrick, Ph.D. - who resides in California
where he is a Professor of Sociology at San Diego State University, and is not
married. Loretta married second on November 15, 1946 to Burke Kirkpatrick, and
had one daughter, Abigail Kirkpatrick, b December 8, 1951, who resides in
Marlin, Texas, is unmarried, and is a member of First Presbyterian Church of
Marlin.
George H. Van Pelt, b May 18, 1925, d November 14, 1964 and buried in
Calvary Cemetery by his parents - was a Marlin High School graduate. He served
in the 766 Base Unit in Iceland, in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War
II. George married in Waco, Texas to Nan Johnson, and they had one son, Charles
H. Van Pelt, who died young.
