JAMES ELDRIDGE TOMLINSON
James Eldridge Tomlinson, b January 11, 1843 in Conecuh County, Alabama,
d April 29, 1888 and buried in Beulah Cemetery near Tomlinson Hill, Falls
County, Texas - was a son of James Kendrick and Sarah Jemima (Stallworth)
Tomlinson of Alabama, who came to Falls County, Texas about 1858.
On October 1, 1868 in Falls County, Texas, James Eldridge Tomlinson was
married to Emma Diantha Perry, b November 11,1845 in Grimes County, Texas, d
September 29, 1919 and buried in Beulah Cemetery by her husband - a daughter of
Judge Albert G. and Harriett Elizabeth (Grimes) Perry, who married in Texas
while it was still State of Coahuila, Mexico; and a granddaughter of Judge Jesse
Grimes, who was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
James E. and Emma D. Tomlinson built their on the Tomlinson farm
near Deer Creek, and it has been occupied by their son and grandson continuously
until 1985. It was there that their four children were born:
William Augustus Tomlinson, b September 10, 1869, d January 11, 1932 and
buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - married December 14,
1888 to Harriet Serepta Hamilton Peoples (called "Hattie"), b September 6,1880
in Falls County, d November 13, 1967 - a daughter of Captain John C. Peoples and
his second wife, Sarah R. Harlan.
James Eldridge Tomlinson, b January 5,1871, d September 10, 1910 in
Globe, Arizona - was not married.
Albert Perry Tomlinson, b 1872, d 1955 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in
Marlin, Falls County, Texas - married December 18, 1898 in Falls County
to Bennie Etheridge, b 1875, date of death unknown, and buried in Calvary
Cemetery - a daughter of W. G. and Ellen (Birkes) Etheridge. They had no
children.
Mary Eliza Tomlinson, b February 7, 1875-married September 27, 1899 to
Shields Morris Key - a son of Dr. Robert Morris and Josephine (Hall) Key, and
nephew of General Benjamin and Mrs. Elmira (Hall) Shields, who reared him.
Shields and Mary Eliza had James S. Key, who married Mary Harris, moved to New
Carney, Texas, and had Mary Helen Key who married John Logan and had John Logan,
Jr.; James S. Key, Jr.; and Margaret Louise Key who died in infancy - as did two
other sons.
