ROBERT
BRUCE THIGPEN
Robert Bruce Thigpen, b April 8, 1858 in Wilcox County, Alabama, d May
10, 1929 in Chilton, Falls County, Texas and buried in the Chilton Cemetery -
came to Falls County in the late 1870's, settling in the Chilton area before the
town was organized. He was a farmer and a merchant.
On December 28, 1887, Robert Bruce was married to Martha Ann Talley, b
July 19, 1856, d May 29,1932 and buried in Chilton Cemetery - a daughter of
James F. Talley, b January 1, 1825 in Alabama, d April 10, 1900 at Mooreville,
Falls County, Texas, and his wife, Martha Ann Talley, b November 17,1830, d July
23, 1897 at Mooreville.
Robert Bruce and Martha Ann were the parents of two children:
Annie Thigpen, b March 1889, d March 18, 1977 - married a Mr. Magee. No
further information.
James Boyd Thigpen, b September 8, 1891, d August 6, 1964 - married Elvy
Price, b August 27, 1887, d July 16, 1959 and both buried in Chilton Cemetery.
They were the parents of one son, Robert
Price Thigpen (later "Sr."), b December 27, 1924 at Chilton, Falls County,
Texas, who married September 22, 1946 to Jane Walston - a daughter of Elza L.
and Elizabeth (Hardy) Walston of Marlin. Robert Price Thigpen established the
"Thigpen Cattle Company, Inc.," of Chilton in 1962 after he started buying
cattle for local ranchers in 1951 when Falls County became primarily a
cattle-grazing area. At present, he has fifty-five loading pens for shipping,
with chutes for processing cattle and he has buyers throughout the state to take
care of the needs of local ranchers. He is president of the corporation, and his
son is the manager. Robert Price and Jane (Walston) Thigpen had one son:
Robert Price Thigpen, Jr., b ca 1948 - married Deborah Lynn Short - a
daughter of O. M. ("Mike": and Frances (Swinnea) Short, of Reagan, Texas; and
they have two sons: Robert Jason and Michael Todd Thigpen.
The Thigpens reside in Marlin.
