JONATHAN EMMITT THIGPEN
Jonathan Emmitt Thigpen, b July 29, 1855 in Wilcox County, Alabama, d
November 10,1900 and buried in Chilton Cemetery in Falls County, Texas - was a
son of Robert J. Boyd and Ruth (Boggan) Thigpen. He was originally named "Emmitt
Jonathan Thigpen," but changed the order of his given names, and this change has
been carried through succeeding generations.
In 1882, Jonathan moved to Falls County, Texas, where he owned land in
the Chilton - Mooreville area in 1886, he married first to Nellie E. Dry, but
they had no children. On September 12, 1897, Jonathan married second to Mattye
Dean Keirsey, b 1873, d 1951 and buried in Chilton Cemetery. They were the
parents of three children:
Isadel Thigpen, b June 10, 1898, d August 16, 1928 and buried in Chilton
Cemetery -
married Dr. Joe S. McCreary, and had one daughter, Doris Jean Mc- Creary, who
married O. L. Bergman, and resided in Houston, Texas.
Frankie Ruth Thigpen, b August 17, 1899, d February 8, 1981- married
September 1, 1923 to W. P. Guinn - had no children, and resided in Houston,
Texas.
Jonathan Emmitt Thigpen, Jr., b July 2, 1901 in Chilton, Falls County,
Texas, d December 27, 1982 and buried in Chilton Cemetery - married Mayme
Claire Relf, b October 9, 1901, d June 13, 1948 and buried in Chilton Cemetery -
a daughter of Ben Wesley and Annie Olivia (Mickle) Relf of Bandera County, Texas
and Selma, Alabama.
