JOHN W. STEPHENSON
John W. Stephenson, b
April 13, 1843 in Texas, d March 22, 1911 and buried in Cego Cemetery-was a son
of John Stephenson, b ca 1814 in Louisiana, and his wife, Sarah (maiden name
unknown) Stephenson, b ca 1810 in Louisiana, who came to The Republic of Texas
by 1837. Their daughter, Samantha Stephenson, b ca 1837 in Texas, married N. L.
Kirk, b ca 183 in Alabama; and another son, Gilbert Stephenson, was born in
1841 in Texas. Sarah Stephenson died ca 1862, and John Stephenson was married
second to Mary Blasingame on February 13, 1863.

Stephenson enlisted in the Confederate States Army, Green's Brigade, Captain
Carter's Regiment.
After the Civil
War, John W. Stephenson was married ca 1867 to Margaret Elizabeth Busby, b 1850
in Arkansas, d 1946 at Cego, Falls County, Texas - a daughter of Jacob and
Miriam (Seeley) Busby, of South Carolina. After their marriage, the couple
bought a farm near Cego, where they had thirteen children, with eight still
living in 1936.
