WILLIAM THOMAS STALLWORTH
William Thomas Stallworth, b June 20, 1845 in
Alabama, d November 17, 1897 in Rosebud, Falls County, Texas‑was a son of Joseph
Mark and Ann M. (Henson) Stallworth of South Carolina and North Carolina,
respectively, who had settled in Falls County, Texas.
William Thomas Stallworth enlisted in the Confederate
States Army in the Third Louisiana Battery, Light Artillery, Benton's Company,
and served during the entire war ‑ attaining the rank of Captain. He moved to
Falls County, Texas in late 1865 or early 1866 with his parents and siblings ‑
settling in the Wilderville area, where he operated a store until it burned in
1880.
On June 18, 1868 in Milam County, Texas, William
Thomas Stallworth was married to Fredonia Agnes Segrest, b December 3, 1849 at
Tuskegee, Macon County, Alabama, d March 20, 1933 in Rosebud and buried in
Woodland Cemetery there ‑ a daughter of Reverend Noah Segrest, b February 26,
1817 in Alabama, d December 22, 1875 and buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery and
his wife, Harriett Rebecca (Walker) Segrest, b June 23, 1828, d March 31, 1913
and buried by her husband.
Before 1890, the family moved to the new town of
Rosebud, where they built a on "Stallworth" Street. William was in the real
estate business, and was one of the leading citizens of Rosebud until his death.
Fredonia continued to reside in Rosebud, and was very active in the Methodist
Church and other civic organizations.
They had ten children:
William Robert Stallworth, b March 12, 1869 in
Wilderville, d August 22, 1885.
Sarah Emmitt Stallworth, b July 24, 1871 in
Wilderville, d 1955 ‑ married February 19, 1903 to William D'Garnet Watkins.
Lillie Pauline Stallworth, b November 9, 1873 in
Wilderville, d March 25, 1943 ‑married December 23, 1890 to William Montford.
Rofrean Lovest May Stallworth, b May 22, 1876, d
April 4, 1877 in Wilderville.
Hal Stallworth, b January 4, 1878 in Wilderville, d
January 5, 1968 ‑ married Florence Kemp.
Ira Stallworth, b February 13, 1881 in Wilderville, d
April 12, 1966 in Rosebud ‑married November 15, 1930 to Ella Maudine Richerson,
b August 6, 1902 at Barclay.
Zubzul Stallworth, b January 16, 1883 at Wilderville,
d March 18, 1935‑married Ethel (maiden name unknown).
Sam Read Stallworth, b May 22, 1885 in Wilderville, d
June 1, 1901 in Rosebud.
John P. Stallworth, b August 10, 1887 in Rosebud, d
November 20, 1948 ‑ no further information.
Julian Swann Stallworth, b June 22, 1890 in Rosebud,
d July 15, 1909.
