FLOYD E. SMITH

 

 

 

Floyd E. Smith, b March 29, 1854 in Kentucky, and buried in McClanahan Cemetery, but without a date of death ‑ was the fifth of seven children of Erastus and Dorcas (Huff) Smith of Kentucky. The Smith family immigrated to Anderson County, Texas about 1856, and subsequently settled in the McClanahan Community of Falls County, Texas before 1870.

Floyd E. Smith was married first to Laura Catherine Parsons, b January 25, 1856 in Rusk County, Texas, d May 23, 1895 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery ‑ a daughter of John and Catherine (Davis) Parsons, natives of Georgia and South Carolina, respectively.

Floyd and Laura had seven children, with five surviving to adulthood:

J. Emery Smith, who married Dora Spencer; Viola Velma Smith, who married J. B. Henley; Erastus Smith, who married Gladys Anderson; Edward Smith, who married Tina Mann; Alice C. Smith, b November 9, 1878, d June 10, 1883 and buried in Hope Cemetery; and Infant Son Smith, born and died October 7, 1887 and buried in Hope Cemetery.

After the death of Laura Catherine (Parsons) Smith, Floyd married second to Mrs. Easter (Miers) Barton (her third marriage), and they had one son: Curtis Smith, b February 14, 1900 in McClanahan, Falls County, Texas, d in 1940 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. On January 28, 1922 at Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas he was married to Ruth Burleson. Curtis was elected County Clerk of Falls County in 1932. They had two children, who died: Curtis Smith, Jr., d at age two years; and an Infant Smith.
