ANDREW MARION SMITH

Andrew Marion Smith, b 1856, d June 25, 1897 ‑was married on August 15, 1874 to Mary Josephine Plummer, b December 31, 1857, d July 23, 1932 and both buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery, Falls County, Texas ‑ a daughter of James Pratt Plummer, b 1834, and his first wife, Cynthia Ann (Stewart) Plummer. After the death of Mary Josephine's mother, her father married second to Martha Araminta (maiden name unknown), and their one child, Wildes Pratt, b December 6, 1861, d 1961, often visited his half sister in Falls County.

James Pratt Plummer was a son of Luther T. M. Plummer, b ca 1811 in Maryland, and his first wife, Rachel (Parker) Plummer, who married ca 1833 in Illinois. On May 19, 1836, in Robertson's Colony in what is now Limestone County, Texas, the famed "Fort Parker Indian Massacre" occurred ‑ only a few weeks after the McLennan Family Indian massacre had occurred in present‑day Falls County, Texas. Rachel (Parker) Plummer, who was expecting a second child, and her two‑year‑old son, James Pratt Plummer, were kidnapped by the Indians, along with Rachel's niece and nephew, Cynthia Ann and John Parker, while Benjamin F. Parker, Silas M. Parker, Samuel M. Frost, Robert Frost, and Elder John Parker were massacred, and "Granny" Parker ‑ who had been left for dead ‑died soon after being carried to Fort Houston. James Pratt Plummer was ransomed from the Indians late in 1842, taken to Fort Gibson, and reached in February 1843. Rachel's second son was born six months after her captivity began, but the child was killed by the Indians. She died soon after her rescue from the Indians, and her return in 1838.

After the death of Andrew Marion Smith, Mary Josephine married secondly to George Irwin.
