ROY HUGH SHIELDES

 

 

 

Roy Hugh Shieldes, b 1888 in Falls County, Texas, d 1974 ‑ was a son of George Robert and Isabelle (Kirkpatrick) Shieldes. He married in 1908 to Matilda Huber, b 1888 in Falls County, Texas ‑ a daughter of John Henry and Cunigunda (Roming) Huber ‑natives of Germany who settled in Falls County.

Roy was the third generation who farmed on the family land purchased by his grandfather, Patrick Newton Shieldes ‑ living his entire life in the area of Cego, Texas.

Roy and Matilda were active in the Baptist Church, and in school and other community affairs. They were the parents of four daughters:

Lorene Shieldes, b May 28, 1909 ‑ married May 31, 1928 to Reuben Wittner ‑ a son of Edwin and Emma (Hirsch) Wittner.

Ernestine Shieldes, b November 2, 1912 ‑ married Thomas Tiller and had no children. They are retired as a school teacher and banker, respectively, and reside in San Marcos, Texas.

Earl Dean Shieldes, b January 15, 1915‑married William Watson of Eddy, Texas and had two daughters, Billie Dean Watson and Sandra Watson. They re­side in Waco, Texas.

Jeannine Shieldes, b September 1, 1929 ‑married Kenneth Harding of Eddy, Texas. They have no children.
