PATRICK NEWTON SHIELDES

 

 

 

Patrick Newton Shieldes, b 1822 in Georgia, d 1892 at Chilicothe, Texas ‑ was married ca 1845 in Georgia to Margaret Emeline Whiteside, b 1822 in Georgia, d 1902 at Mooreville, Falls County, Texas.

Patrick and Margaret came to Falls County, Texas from Jackson County, Georgia in 1880, settling on a farm near Eddy three miles southeast of the Old Blevins Road. It was here they lived and farmed until their deaths.

A school near Eddy was called "Shieldes School" in honor of Patrick. The couple reared five children and still have descendants at Cego in Falls County:

Rhoda Frances Shieldes, b 1846 in Georgia ‑ married in 1866 to Isaac Neely.

George Robert Shields, b 1850 in Georgia, d 1928 ‑ married Isabelle Kirkpatrick.

Amanda Eleanor Shieldes, b 1853 in Georgia married Robert Hare. She taught school in Falls County.

Cynthia Eugenia Shieldes, b 1856 in Georgia married Simon L. Harris.

John Newton Shieldes, b 1859 in Georgia ‑ married Martha ("Mattie") Maxey of Chilton, Texas, and moved to Mart, Texas.
