JESSE WALTER SAXON
Jesse Walter Saxon, b
July 30, 1867 in Falls County, Texas, d March 16, 1957 in Austin, Travis County,
Texas and buried there ‑ was a son of Thomas Lewis and Elizabeth ("Eliza"
Millerman) Saxon. On December 30, 1896 in Falls County, Texas, Jesse Walter
married Hannah Williams, b April 22, 1873 in Falls County, d December 30, 1966
in Austin ‑ a daughter of Jehu Williams and his second wife, Amanda Frances
(McDowell‑Herring) Williams, who had moved from Monroe County, Mississippi to
Falls County, Texas in 1869.

Hannah (Williams) Saxon were the parents of seven children:
John Williams Saxon, b
November 5, 1897, d October 10, 1918 ‑ served in the military during World War
I, and died unmarried.
Thomas Lewis Saxon, b
March 21, 1899, d September 1975 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas ‑ died
unmarried.
Mary Saxon, b February
15, 1902 ‑ married June 2, 1928 in Austin, Texas to Michael Davis, b September
26, 1902, and had two children: James Michael Davis, b May 16, 1929 in Houston,
Texas who married December 9, 1955 to Lona Snoble, and John Michael Davis, b
January 21, 1939 in Houston, Texas who married June 17, 1961 to Virginia Ruth
Wagner. Michael and Mary (Saxon) Davis continue to reside in Austin, where he is
a Banker.
Ruth Saxon, b December
3, 1903, d April 2,1965 in Austin, Texas ‑ married November 27, 1929 in Austin
to Fred Anderson Barge, Jr., b January 26, 1906, and had two children: Marjorie
Saxon Barge, b May 1, 1935 in Austin d there November 30, 1960 ‑ unmarried; and
Thomas Murray Barge, b March 3, 1939 in Austin ‑ married December 10, 1960 to
Patricia Ann Claxon and had lark Evan Barge and Marjorie Lorraine Barge before
they were divorced February 3, 1978. After Ruth's death, Fred Anderson Barge,
Jr. married second to Loriene Seabolt.
Naomi Saxon, b January
21, 1905 in Austin married June 16, 1934 to George Roy Haberlin, b August 14,
1905 and had three children: Walter George Haberlin, b June 15, 1935 in Austin,
d there June 16, 1935; Frances Beth Haberlin, b November 5, 1936 who married
February 8, 1959 to Raymond Max Slaughter; and Susan Lee Haberlin, b February
23, 1940 who married in September 1966 to Leon F. Shineldecker and had George
Thomas, Carol Ann, and Edward Ray Shineldecker before they were divorced.
Samuel Millerman
Saxon, b January 23, 1908 (the first of the children of Jesse Walter and Hannah
Saxon born out of Texas) ‑ was born in Washington, D.C. On April 8, 1937, he
married Carrie Louise Yarrington, b April 9, 1912 and had four children ‑ all
born in Texas: Mary Lou Saxon who married William P. Jobes, Thomas Russell Saxon
who married Mary Carolyn Stone, Samuel Millerman Jr. who married Avis Patricia
Kendrick, and William Robert who married Nancy Arlene Merchant.
Jesse Jehu Saxon, b
September 1, 1912 in Maryland, d February 25, 1978 ‑ married June 1940 in Waco,
McLennan County, Texas to Eula Inez (Foreman) Morse. He adopted her daughter,
Wanda Lynn,
and
they had two other children: Jesse Allen and Rebecca Jean.
Jesse Walter Saxon
grew up in Falls County, Texas, and graduated from Georgetown College in
Kentucky. He taught school fourteen years, and from 1898 to 1902, he was
Superintendent of the Brazoria County School System. Also, for one year, he was
owner, publisher, and editor of the Angleton Times. In 1895, he was one of three
feature writers assigned to the State Legislature, being employed by the Fort
Worth Record during the first term of Governor Culberson. Jesse's first
government position was in the Whitesboro Post Office, and from there he was
transferred to Washington, D.C., joining the small staff of the Treasury
Department December 30, 1907. After serving 22 years in the Income Tax Division
in Washington and Austin, he was promoted regularly until he became Chief of the
Austin District Tax Division ‑ a position he remained in until his retirement at
age 70 years on July 31, 1937. His main relaxation was found in gardening and
tending a cow.
Jesse Walter and Hannah (Williams) Saxon were members of the Methodist Church. Although they resided in Austin, Travis County from 1920 until their deaths, they continued to consider their roots were in Falls County, Texas, where many relatives continue to reside.
