WILLIAM C. ROGERS

 

 

    William C. Rogers, b November 26, 1855 at Reagan, Falls County, Texas, d February 22, 1933 and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin, Texas - was a son of Nathaniel Franklin and Tennessee (Huffman) Rogers. In 1877, he married Mary Floyd Phillips, b Au- gust 21, 1862, d March 5, 1930 and buried in Calvary Cemetery .

     William C. and Mary Floyd resided in Reagan, Texas until 1895, when they moved to Marlin. He and two of his sons, Ewell and Thomas Allen, established and operated the Rogers Dry Goods Company, located on Live Oak Street in Marlin, for a number of years.

     The children of William C. and Mary Floyd (Phillips) Rogers were:

     Ewell Anderson Rogers, b September 3, 1879, d August 4, 1963 and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin - married Eula Brown, b March 25, 1885, d January 24, 1968.

     Alvin Q. Rogers, b February 6, 1886, d July 1, 1932 - married Martha C. Moseley, b April 3, 1883, d September 3, 1973, and had three children.

     Lucile Rogers, b November 11, 1887, d May 20, 1970 and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin - was the second wife of John Melvin Wilson, and married December 25,1923. Mr. Wilson had a son, John Melvin Wilson, Jr., b May 21,1915, d December 16,1935, and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wilson who married in 1938 to Dr. Walter Scott Smith, Jr., by his first wife; and he and Lucile had twin daughters, Eleanor and Caroline Wilson.

     Wilbur Leo Rogers - married Alpha Ball. No further information.

     Caroline Rogers (called "Callie"), b July 22, 1889, d August 6, 1977 and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin - married William H. Blaylock, b September 21, 1882, d January 12, 1971.

     Thomas Allen Rogers - married Mrs. Catherine (Walston) Ramsey, b July 15, 1890 in Bowie County, Texas - a daughter of Daniel and Ann Elizabeth (Powell) Walston.

     Selwyn Phillips Rogers - no further information.
