LIONEL AULIS ROBINSON
Lionel Aulis Robinson (called "Onie"), b December 14, 1878 in Brazos
County, Texas, d May 15, 1945 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - was a son of John Wesley and Mary (Kelly) Robinson,
who brought their family to Falls County in 1882.
"Onie" was educated in the Marlin schools, graduating in the Class of
1896, and at Virginia Military Institute where he earned a degree in civil
engineering - returning to Marlin, where he was associated with his father in
the lumber and hardware business. Nash, Robinson and Company. While a cadet at
V.M.I. (1896-1900), he was a Cadet Company Officer, and among those young men
who were under his command was Cadet George C. Marshall - later becoming General
Marshall, Chief of Staff and Secretary of State of the United States.
Onie was married first in Falls County, Texas to Lillian Barclay, b
February 29, 1880 in Falls County, Texas, d December 24, 1904 and buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - a daughter of Samuel D. and Lucia (Stewart)
Barclay, and a granddaughter of Dr. Charles B. and Julia (Sheppard) Stewart -
Dr. Stew- art being one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Onie and Lillian had no children. On September 2,1913 in McLennan County, Texas
he was married second to May McSween Harris, b August 9, 1882 in Burnet County,
Texas, d July 31,1955 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary
Cemetery - a daughter of Norvell Ward and Ida Frances (McSween) Harris.
After the death of his father, Mr. Robinson became vice-president and
member of the board of directors of Nash, Robinson and Company, and was general
manager of the business in Marlin. Like his father, he was a director of First
National Bank of Marlin, and of Marlin Cotton Seed Oil Company. He served as
president of the school board for several years. He was an Elder of First
Presbyterian Church of Marlin, and served in many offices of his church. He was
a member of the state and national lumbermen's associations, was active in the
Marlin Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of the Marlin Country Club.
May McSween (Harris) Robinson first came to Marlin, Texas in 1908, as a
teacher in the elementary school. Throughout her life, she continued her
interests in educational, cultural, social, and religious activities in the
community.
Lionel Aulis and May McSween (Harris) Robinson were the parents of three
children:
Lionel Aulis Robinson, Jr., b November 10, 1915
in Marlin, Texas, d December 23, 1930 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin.
Mary Frances Robinson (called "Sistee"), b January 5, 1918 in Marlin,
Texas - married January 18, 1947 to Walton Jones, b September 18, 1913 - a son
01 Henry Columbus and Agnes (Weatherred) Jones. Walton Jones had daughter,
Brenda Ann Jones, b October 15,1940 in Marlin, by his first marriage on November
24,1937 to Frances Anderson; and Walton and Mary Frances (Robinson) Jones had
two children: Walton Robinson Jones, b February 16, 1948 in Marlin, who married
May 30, 1969 to Jo Lynn Cooper; and Mary Elizabeth Jones (called "Betty"), b
September 18, 1951 in Marlin, who married May 20,1978 to Dr. Charles E. Oltorf,
who resides in Temple, Texas.
Agnes Elizabeth Rose Robinson (called "Betty Rose"), b June 3, 1924 in
Marlin, Texas - married August 15, 1947 to James Neuman Walton, Jr., and they
reside in Brady, Texas. James and Betty Rose were the parents of two children:
Elizabeth May Walton, b September 10, 1953 in Brady, Texas, who married July 30,
1977 to Mark Weischwill; and James Lionel Walton, b August 15, 1961 in Marlin,
Texas.
L. A. Robinson gave generously of his time, knowledge, and means to his
community and to the many individuals who sought his aid and advice. The family
were highly respected and loved members of their community.
