THOMAS CRANMER ROBERTS

 

     Thomas Cranmer Roberts, b January 28, 1837 in Rapids Parish, Louisiana, d 1917 in a Confederate Veterans' - came to Falls County in the 1850's and settled on the West side of the Brazos River.

     On September 19, 1861, Thomas was married to Sarah Melvina Greer, b September 11, 1845 in Sevier County, Arkansas, d December 25, 1937 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas, daughter of John W. and Catherine (Allen) Greer.

     In 1862, Thomas enlisted in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, and was commissioned to drive cattle to Louisiana to feed the army. It is not known whether he was in any battles, but he returned to Falls County at the end of the war.

     Thomas and Sarah reared five children:

     John Hadley Roberts, b August 5, 1863 in Falls County, Texas, d November 6,1892 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin.

     Annie Catherine Roberts, b November 23, 1865, d November 29, 1948 - married January 9, 1884 to James W. Mallard, b September 8, 1854 in Missouri, d January 4, 1923 in Falls County, Texas. They had James B. Mallard, b January 23, 1888 in Marlin, d February 1, 1956 - married August 1, 1907 to Corene Walton, b June 12, 1899, d November 24,1974 in Marlin, and James and Corene had: Reuben A., Winston, Milton, and Billy Gale Mallard, who lives in Falls County, Texas, and whose son, Stewart Scott Mallard, also lives in Marlin with his wife and children.

     Mary Elizabeth Roberts, b February 25, 1868 in Falls County, d October 30, 1930 at Lafayette, Arkansas and buried in Rondo Cemetery near Texarkana - married January 2,1887 in Falls County to Thomas J. Stewart, b November 18, 1855 in Talladega County, Alabama, d December 15, 1926 and buried in Arkansas. T. J. and Mary had six children in Falls County before moving to Arkansas, where four more children were born: Bessie, Essie, Lula, Jeffie, John, Celeta, Alec, Quannah, Scott, and Willa Mae Stewart.

     Benjamin G. Roberts, b ca 1870-married November 11, 1894 in Falls County to Dora Rudell, and had Bertha Roberts.

     Sarah Lula Roberts, b October 20, 1872, died in Palestine, Texas - married Ed Mallard, b March 27, 1857 in Missouri, d Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.

     Sarah Melvina (Greer) Roberts married second ca 1882 to Thomas Jefferson Maxwell, b June 3, 1855, d February 23, 1891 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas. They had two children:

     Emma Florene Maxwell, b August 30, 1883, d April 5, 1941 in Waco, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - married June 6, 1910 to Samuel Houston Day, and had Samuel Houston Day, Jr., and Willard Day.

     Mark Maxwell, b ca 1885 - no further information.
