EDWARD WALKER ROBBINS

     Edward Walker Robbins, b March 25, 1861 in Bellville, Conecuh County, Alabama, d May 5, 1944 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried there in Cal- vary Cemetery - was a son of Elijah King and Clotilda (Bradley) Robbins.

     In 1883, Edward came to Reagan, Falls County, where three of his cousins, George Robbins, Elizabeth (Robbins) Andrews, and Elizabeth (Robbins) Boyles, had already settled. By 1900, Edward's brother, Henry A. Robbins, joined the others at Reagan.

     After working at several jobs, Edward enrolled and graduated from Toby's Business College in Waco - returning to Reagan, where he became bookkeeper for the Peyton Brothers Store, and then for Thomas ("Buck") Hagan, who purchased the store and changed its name to Reagan Mercantile Company." Edward served as Bookkeeper and cotton Buyer in that business.

     Edward W. Robbins was Precinct Chairman for the Democratic Party, worked in the home-front activities during World War I; was a Charter Member and Secretary for the Masonic Lodge of Reagan, and a member and president of the Reagan School Board for many years.

     On February 4, 1891, Edward was married to Lulu Thames, b October 16, 1869 at Wallace Prairie, Texas, d June 8, 1946 and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin - a daughter of William T. and Matilda (Morrison) Thames. Lulu was a member of the Hempstead High School Class of 1888. She studied for and passed exams, and obtained a Teaching Certificate, after which she moved to Reagan to teach for one year.

     Edward and Lulu were active in the Methodist Church at Reagan. She helped organize a Study Club in Reagan, where members exchanged books they had purchased. Lulu was a Volunteer Nurse Attendant for many critically ill women in the community.

     Edward and Lulu reared their five children in Reagan at the time John E. Davis, one of Reagan's most esteemed and brilliant men, was teaching, publishing two newspapers, and active in the political activities of the county. Their children were:

     Ruth Thames Robbins, b November 28, 1892 at Reagan - married May 25, 1924 to Joseph William Vanham (or Vanhorn).

     Clo Bradley Robbins, b September 21, 1894 in Reagan - married November 24, 1916 to Charles H. Barclay, and lived in Marlin, where they reared their family. They were active in the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin.

     Annie Robbins, b June 8, 1899 in Reagan - married 1919 to Benjamin Sims Peek, of Waco.

     Edward Tyler Robbins, b May 7, 1902 at Reagan - married November 25, 1926 to Lois McCarver. They live in San Antonio.

     William King Robbins, b May 10, 1907 in Reagan - married July 5, 1927 to Helen Maroney, and moved to Goose Creek, Texas - present-day Baytown.
