PAUL HENRY REICHERT
Paul Henry Reichert, b March 19, 1891 in New Baden, Robertson County,
Texas, d June 7,1974 and buried in Waco, Texas - was a son of Henry Augustus and
Elizabeth (Zweifel) Reichert, whose ancestors settled in Chicago, Illinois
before settling in Texas in the 1870's. Paul's grandparents were Phillip
Reichert, born in Germany or Prussia, and David and (Barish) Zweifel of
Switzerland and New Orleans.
In 1907, Henry Augustus and Elizabeth Reichert moved from New Baden with
their family of four sons and two daughters to Mart, McLennan County, Texas.
Their children were: Albert, Edward A., Carl G., Paul Henry, Ida E., and Emma
Reichert.
Paul Henry Reichert attended public school at Mart, and Business College
in Waco -
returning to Mart as a bookkeeper for Sewell Grocery Company, and later as
cashier and bookkeeper for the First National Bank of Mart.
On July 7, 1915, Paul Henry married Mabelle Laurea Rogers, b May 15,
1894, d May 28, 1959 in Waco, Texas and buried in Mart - a daughter of Marcus
Lafayette and Mary Anne Ardellia (Powell) Rogers, who married in DeSoto County,
Mississippi before coming to Texas in the 1870's. Mabelle had six brothers and
three sisters: Julian Victor, Preston Eugene, Robert Aaron, Hudson Keyes, Marcus
Lafayette, Jr., Grover Cleveland, Lillian Maud, Callie Ester, and Bessie Mary
Rogers.
After attending school in Mart, Mabelle worked for Jackson Maloney
Company in Mart until her marriage to Paul Henry Reichert. On August 6, 1919,
their only child - a son - was born: Edward Lee Reichert. Because of the illness
in 1922 and subsequent death of her brother and his wife, Hudson Keyes and Dovie
Elyola (Carmichael) Rogers, the Reicherts reared their son, Harold Keyes Rogers.
In 1924, Paul Henry Reichert moved his family to Rosebud, Falls County,
Texas, where he was cashier, bookkeeper, and a director in the Rosebud State
Bank. In 1929, he was employed by the Humble Oil and Refining Company as Bulk
Agent in Rosebud, Cammeron, and vicinity, where he worked until his retirement
in 1963.
Paul was active in civic and religious affairs throughout his life. As a
member of the Methodist Church, he served in Mart, Rosebud, and Waco as a church
school superintendent, steward, financial secretary, and choir member. He was a
Mason and active member of the Lion's Club of Rosebud, a City Councilman, mayor
pro tem, school trustee, and Boy Scout Leader.
Mabelle was equally involved in the Methodist Church, the Rosebud Chapter
694 of the Eastern Star. A lovely Christian lady, she devoted her life and
energies to the church and community, in caring for her family, the sick, and
others. She was revered by all to whom she devotedly gave her life.
In 1961, Paul Henry Reichert married second to Elta G. Brown, and after
his retirement in 1963, they moved to Waco, Texas, where Elta died in 1970. Paul
continued to reside in Waco, until his own death.
