RICHARD ALLEN ("RED") REED II

 

 

     Richard Allen ("Red") Reed, II, b October 8, 1912 in Falls County, Texas, d February 6, 1986 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery at Marlin - was a son of Lee Henry and Gertrude Jane (McAndrew) Reed.

     "Red" married first in Falls County, Texas to Gladys Scott, and had one son, Lee Henry Reed, II, who died and was buried in Waller, Texas in 1959. He married second on March 4, 1952 to Peggy Faustine Herron, b November 4, 1929 - a daughter of Willie Daniel and Dora Bessie (Fisher) Herron, and Peggy resides in rural Marlin.

     Richard Allen ("Red") and Peggy Reed had three children: Ricky David Reed, b May 10, 1954 in Harris County, Texas - married in 1982 to Linda Rochelle James, and resides in Corpus Christi, Texas; Vicky Shannon Reed, b April 19, 1956 in Harris County, Texas - resides in Marlin; and Becky Minnell Reed, b October 8, 1962 in Harris County, Texas - resides in Marlin.

     "Red" was a carpenter and building contractor in Harris County most of his life, being pressed with work after Hurricane Carla. He helped build the Freeport Sulphur Company and Dow Chemical Company buildings in Freeport, Texas. He was a member of the Methodist Church, doing volunteer maintenance work both in Houston and in Marlin. He was a 33rd Degree Mason.

     The Richard Allen Reed family returned to the family farm in Falls County after his retirement, and he was honored by the Heritage Land Commission of the Texas Agriculture department for land that had been owned and operated by the family for over 100 years. Red and Peggy built a new on the farm, and she continues to reside there.
