LUTHER BENJAMIN REAVES
Luther Benjamin Reaves, b June 21, 1898 in Milam County, Texas - was a
son of John Edward and Bettie Ann (Dawson) Reaves. He married on June 29, 1921
at Rosebud, Falls County, Texas to Ruby Esther Stuckey, b October 18, 1897 in
Falls County, d February 28, 1931 at Lott - a daughter of Reverend James Lewis
and Emma Jane (Brown) Stuckey.
Luther came to Falls County from Milam County with his parents in 1908,
riding a horse and driving cattle all the way to the Pleasant Grove community.
After his marriage, he continued to live in Pleasant Grove, where he farmed and
Ruby taught school at Friendship, Pleasant Grove, and Shields Academy. In 1929,
they moved to Lott, where Luther worked as a deliveryman, mail messenger,
constable, Rural Mail Carrier, and salesman. During World War II, Luther was a
guard at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 1954, Luther moved to Rosebud, where he married second to Icey Ann
Wright, b November 13, 1902 in Blevins, Falls County, Texas - a daughter of
James Meredith and Lucretia (Ables) Wright. Luther and Icey are members of the
First Baptist Church of Rosebud, Icey is a retired school teacher.
By his first marriage to Ruby Esther (Stuckey), Luther had three
daughters, and Ruby died soon after the youngest was born:
Dorothy Elizabeth Reaves, b July 1, 1924 in Falls County, Texas - married
April 12, 1953 to Herbert
Herman Polley of Cottonwood. .
Esther Louise Reaves, b February 16, 1927 in Falls County - married on
May 9, 1953 to Charles Earl Schrader.
Bennie Ruth Reaves, b February 6, 1931, d October 29, 1939 at Lott,
Texas.
