JOHN EDWARD REAVES
John Edward Reaves, b January 1, 1859 in Alabama, d October 4, 1937 at
Pleasant Grove in Falls County, Texas and buried in the Powers Chapel Cemetery,
was a son of George Washington and Sarah Ann (Smith) Reaves, - was married on
December 14, 1879 in Montgomery County, Texas to Bettie Ann Dawson, b October
30, 1858 in Florida, d December 9, 1922 at Pleasant Grove and buried in Powers
Chapel Cemetery.
John Edward Reaves moved with his parents to Texas in January 1879,
settling in Montgomery County until 1892 when they moved to Milam County. In
December 1909, John and Bettie brought their family to Falls County, where they
bought a farm at Pleasant Grove which is still owned by a grandson.
John Reaves was a farmer, and operated a community syrup mill. He and his
family were members of the Primitive Baptist Church.
John Edward and Bettie Ann (Dawson) Reaves had nine children:
Carrie Idella Reaves, b October 7, 1880, d October 26, 1885 in Montgomery
County, Texas.
Edney Elizabeth Reaves, b June 30, 1882, d November 10, 1946 in Falls
County, Texas - married James William Hudson.
Daniel Jackson Reaves, b January 15, 1884 in Montgomery County, Texas -
married August 29, 1909 to Katy Dawson, d August 15, 1916.
Dora Vernettie Reaves, b September 15, 1885 in Montgomery County, Texas,
d September 1, 1903 in Milam County, Texas.
Sarah Ellen Reaves, b March 20, 1888 in Montgomery County, Texas, d
November 28,1968 - married December 22,1908 to Thomas Henry Thrasher.
John Archie Reaves, b March 25, 1891 in Montgomery County, Texas, d
September 5, 1941 - married Eunice Jinks.
Mary Ann ("Mollie") Reaves, b September 8, 1893 in Milam County, Texas, d
March 9, 1970 - married Henry D. Denton.
Luther Benjamin Reaves, b June 21, 1898 in Milam County, married first to
Ruby Esther Stuckey; married second to Icey Ann Wright.
Laurence Gordon Reaves, b October 4, 1901 in Milam County, Texas, d June
6,1914.
On May 15, 1924, John Edward Reaves married second to Sallie B. Binford,
b September 17, 1885 in Grimes County, Texas, d November 3, 1935 near Lott, and
buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of B. I.
Binford, b September 10, 1843, d August 11, 1929, and buried in Powers Chapel
Cemetery. Binford's grandson, Reverend Theo Binford, was the pastor of Rosebud
Baptist Church at Rosebud Baptist Church at Rosebud, Falls, County, Texas.
