KIT CARSON PRATT
Kit Carson Pratt, b ca 1910, d July 4, 1937 in Falls County, Texas - was
a son of Henry Thompson Pratt, b Smythe County, Virginia, and his wife, Martha
Carson, of Grayson County, Virginia. He married on September 3, 1932 in Marlin,
Texas to Clarac Alma Woodland (called "Alma"), b March 4, 1908 in Marlin, d
December 7, 1975 and buried in Calvary Cemetery there - a daughter of George and
Clarac Alma (Johnson) Woodland.
Kit came to Falls County, Texas where his Uncle Oliver Pratt had settled
on a ranch near the Woodland homestead. He and Alma had one child, Alma Lavonne
Pratt, b October 10, 1935 - just eighteen months before Kit was accidentally
killed by a horse.
Alma managed the family estate after Kit's death - including the Marlin,
Hog Island, and Encinal property (bought by her grandparents), until her death.
She married second to Harold Waldemar Swensen, b 1901, d 1966, who was from
Austin, Texas and was in the oil leasing business.
Kit and Alma's daughter, Alma Lavonne Pratt (called Lavonne), was a 1954
graduate of Marlin High School, and in 1957 graduate of Baylor University -
having studied in Mexico City for ten months. She worked at the University of
Southern California and University of California at Los Angeles. On Easter
Sunday, April 6, 1958, Lavonne married in the George Woodland in Marlin to
Harry Foster Rogers.
