HERSCHEL RICHARD POWERS

 

 

     Herschel Richard Powers, b November 30, 1903 in Kentucky, d October 31, 1968 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Falls County, Texas - was married on May 30, 1925 to Arrilla Cobb, b March 4, 1905, d March 17, 1977 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery - a daughter of Robert Long and Arrilla (Millerman) Cobb, natives of Alabama and Texas, respectively.

     The couple lived in the Blue Ridge Community, where they farmed - later moving to Marlin, where Herschel and Hardy Barnett established the Barnett and Powers "Seed and Fertilizer Company." Arrilla had a nursery built at her on Capps Street, where she had a thriving business.

     Herschel R. and Arrilla Powers were the parents of seven children:

     Richard Wilton Powers - a twin, b May 15, 1926 - married October 5, 1948 to Clara Mae Benke.

     Herschel Milton Powers - a twin, b May 15, 1926, d July 7,1933.

     Doris Nell Powers, b March 2, 1928 - married first to Troy J. Rose; married second to William E. Hill; and married third to Darrell E. Childs - a native of Marlin, Texas. They live in Katy, Texas.

     Faye Louise Powers, b August 18, 1929 - married first to Thomas R. Brack; married second to Robert C. Hagner.

     Thomas D. Powers, b June 30, 1932 - married March 2, 1963 to Norma Jean Wilkerson.

     Shella Marie Powers, b July 7, 1938 - married t first to William Lee Grube, and married second to Paul Moore.

     Robert L. Powers, b May 8, 1941- married March 3,1972 to Phyllis Kay Simpson.
