ANDREW HOLLINGSWORTH PEYTON
Andrew Hollingsworth Peyton, b October 20, 1908 in Marlin, Falls County,
Texas -
was a son of Samuel Price and Richie Caroline (Hollingsworth) Peyton - natives
of Virginia and Louisiana, respectively. He was a 1926 graduate of Marlin High
School, and in 1930 received his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M
University.
In June 1930, after graduation, Andrew left for Preston, Cuba, where he
was employed by the United Fruit Company until 1950, with a leave of absence
when he enlisted in World War II on: November 5, 1942 -
serving until discharged on September 13, 1946, with the rank of Captain. He
returned to Cuba in October 1946.
On August 7, 1931 Andrew H. Peyton married Julia M. Monahan, a registered
nurse employed by the United Fruit Company in Cuba. Their only child, Sandys
Stuart Peyton, was born on August 10, 1940 in New York.
Andrew, Julia, and Sandys moved to Honduras where Andrew worked for the
Standard Fruit Company. In 1953, he joined the United States Government's
Agricultural Service, serving in Indonesia, Haiti, Nigeria, and Afghanistan
until his retirement on July 1, 1972. The family returned to Marlin, and re-
side at the same address where Andrew was born.
Andrew H. and Julia Peyton are active members of the First United
Methodist Church of Marlin. Andrew is a Rotarian, and is serving as Chairman of
Falls County Historical Commission, of which Julia is also a member.
