Thomas Gott
Peters was born in January, 1859 in Robertson County, Texas, the second son of
William A. Peters, and Mary (Polly) Birkes Peters. He grew up in Logan County,
Illinois near Mt. Pulaski. He returned to Texas when about fifteen with his
parents, brothers and sisters.
On August 2, 1879 he was married to Rebecca Liles, born in May, 1860 in
Covington County, Alabama near Andalusia on the Conecah River. She was the
oldest daughter of Ephraim Liles and Charity Dixon Liles. They had moved to
Texas and settled in the western part of Falls County between Durango and Live
Oak communities.
After Tom and Rebecca (Becky) Peters were married, they moved to a farm
which they bought in the Busby community. There they lived, reared their
children, sent them to school at Busby and later to Lott. After their children
were grown and gone from home, they moved into Lott and lived there until their
deaths. Tom Peters died on October 14, 1942 at the hospital in Marlin and was
buried at Clover Hill Cemetery, Lott. Becky Peters passed away at her in
Lott on February 12, 1949 and was also buried at Clover Hill Cemetery.
Their oldest child was a daughter, Laura, born Oct. 25, 1880 and died in
1958. She was married to Thomas B. Teel, born in Alabama in 1872 and died at
Lott in 1916. They made their in Lott. Several years after his death, Laura
moved to Waco with her two younger children. Laura and Tom Teel had three
children-two sons and one daughter. Robert Ernst, 1899 - 1980, married Callie
Studevant of Rogers. They had two sons: Wallace Tee (1928 - 1933), and Wayne
Teel, born in 1930 who now lives with his family in Denver, Colorado. Riley
Callaway Teel, born April 15, 1905 and died March 25, 1989 was married to Evelyn
Hill from Dawson in 1941. They live in Waco, and Riley is retired from the First
National Bank of Waco. Nina Mae Teel was born on March 2, 1908. She married
Harvey P. Sansom of Waco, there they still live. Tom and Laura Teel, and Ernest,
Callie, and Wallace Teel were buried at Clover Hill Cemetery, Lott.
An infant son was born and died on June 16, 1882 and was buried at Union
Cemetery near Durango.
Sarah Etta (Sallie), born July 14, 1883 and died January 20, 1931, was
married to William Curtis Storey, born August 12, 1882 and died September 8,
1965. They lived at Lott and Mart, and were buried at Clover Hill Cemetery. They
were the parents of five children. Bruce, born July 3, 1904, was married to
Mildred Moore, 1913 - 1986. They had one daughter. Bruce lives in Fort Worth.
Marie was born March 9, 1908 and was married to Clifton Breland, 1905 - 1984,
and lives in Mart. Willie Curtis was born January 2, 1914, married Mitt
Contella, now deceased. They had two sons. She lives in Bryan. Roy Woodrow was
born January 6, 1918. He married Ruby Johnson, born 1922. They have two sons and
live in Houston. Helen Ruth was born on May 3, 1923 and also lives in Houston.
John A. was born in 1885 and died in Galveston on December 29, 1961, and
was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Marlin beside his wife, Mary. In his early
adulthood he worked in the oil fields, and in later years was a commercial
fisherman on the Brazos River.
Sammie, born April 20, 1888, died October 17, 1888, and buried at Union
Cemetery.
Tom Liles was born on October 5, 1889 and died on December 18, 1976, was
married to Rinda Walker of Bremond, Texas. They were the parents of three
children-two daughters and one son: Edith Rebecca, born July 16, 1913; Eva Mae,
born September 17, 1918; and Basil Augustus, born August 18, 1922, died March
20, 1966, and was buried at Grand Prairie, Texas (See Peters - Walker).
Mattie was born in 1892. She died when a young adult and was buried in
San Antonio.
Riley was born in 1895 and died in 1973. He was married to Beatrice
Grisham. They had one son, Donald Barnett, and two grandchildren, Patricia and
David Riley Peters. Riley was a banker in Abilene and Kerrville. He, wife, and
son Donald, were buried at Kerrville, Texas.
